Karl Kappes studied in Cincinnati at the McMicken School of Design, in New York under William Merritt Chase, in Paris at the Academie Julien, and in Munich at the Royal Academy. Kappes was a successful painter of portraits and landscapes, an instructor, and he exhibited at the National Academy of Design and the Munich Royal Academy. He was the head of the art department at Weller Pottery from 1904 to 1920. |
