338. Fully carved walnut desk, finely detailed carvings on all sides. Drawer fronts with Man in the Mountain, vines and leaves, crown with shield medallion, leaves and geometric and floral edging. Dramatic bare-breasted full griffins with twisting tails and fierce faces support desk top. The sides have Man in the Mountain, shells, scrolls and basket-weave edging. Rear: Top panel with acanthus leaves, Man in the Mountain and grotesque faces, a large center panel with flamed-finial atop large urn flanked by two full standing griffins, two hairy paw feet at each corner. Crown of sculpted top rail with fully relief carved cherub flanked by two young girls faces with flowing hair with pear and leaf adornments and two finials. Five back supports, center support has two pierce-carved griffins flanking a center cartouche in a nut pod design, four remaining supports are back-to-back griffins with trailing leaves. Uprights have acanthus leaves, bead work and floral medallions, carved skirt with two open-mouthed grotesque gargoyles. Settee is carved front and rear.
