He was an instructor of landscape painting at the Art Academy, a professor at the University of Cincinnati, and a regular lecturer at the Cincinnati Art Club. |

213. Leon Lippert, Cincinnati, 1863-1947, Sitting Bull, oil on canvas, 10" x 8", signed. (800-1,000) German born Leon Lippert emigrated to the United States at age 17, settling in Cincinnati. He studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, spending twenty years in Frank Duveneck's Life Classes. He resided in Newport, and held a studio in downtown Cincinnati. He is best known as a portraitist and colorist, although he was also versatile in his subjects and styles. A retrospective book, Leon Lippert: Rediscovering the Art and the Man, was published in 2001. |

(300-500) Ohio born Frank Myers studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati with Frank Duveneck and John Weis, and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He traveled through Europe and the American Southwest, eventually settling in California. He is known for landscapes, portraits and seascapes. His works are found in the National Museum of American Art in Washington DC, the Museum of New Mexico, the Univeristy of Cincinnati, and Irvine Museum. |

She painted murals in Cincinnati in the UC Engineering library, Cincinnati Women's Club, and in Hartwell and Western Hills high schools. She was a member of the Cincinnati Women's Art Club, Southern States Art League, and the McDowell Society. |

(200-300) Meakin was considered one of the best landscape painters of his time, and was often called the "Father of Western Art." He studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati under Frank Duveneck and John Twachtman, and later was a teacher there for 40 years. |
