Paul Sawyier, KY, 1865-1917, Bend in the Kentucky River, watercolor, 10" x 13", signed. 10,000-15,000 Kentucky Impressionist Paul Sawyier began his art studies at an early age with a private tutor from Cincinnati. He studied portraiture under Thomas Noble at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. He moved to New York to study at the Art Student's League under William Merritt Chase, where he was also able to observe John Singer Sargent. He later studied with Frank Duveneck. |

Irving Ramsey Wiles, A.N.A., NY, 1861-1948, Landscape with wide lake, oil on canvas-board, 10" x 14", signed. 15,000-20,000 National Academy member Irving Wiles studied at the Art Students League in New York, where he formed a life-long friendship with William Merritt Chase. He later studied at the Academie Julien. He won many major awards on the East Coast and in the Paris Salon. His portrait subjects include Theodore Roosevelt and William Jennings Bryant. |

10. Daniel Charles Grose, USA, 1865-1890, Landscape with fields & distant hills, 1876, oil on canvas, 22" x 36", signed & dated. 4,000-6,000 Daniel Grose lived in Canada and Washington DC. He also worked in Maine, the Hudson River Valley, the Rocky Mountains, California including Yosemite, and Connecticut. He is well-listed as a painter of landscapes, rivers and ocean scenes. His father was English landscape painter, Francis Grose. |

2. George Henry Bogert, A.N.A., NY, 1864-1944, Venetian Sunset, oil on canvas, 28" x 36", signed, title on reverse. 2,500-3,500 National Academy member George Bogert was a tonalist painter, also associated with the Barbizon school. His best works employed a densely applied impasto to achieve hazy soft-light effects. He studied at the National Academy, in Paris, and later in New York under Thomas Eakins. He worked throughout Europe, and later settled in the artist's colony in Old Lyme, CT. |

Henry Lawrence Faulkner, KY, 1924-1981, Floral still life, oil on paper mounted to board, 16" x 13", signed. 3,000-4,000 An eccentric painter and poet from Kentucky, Faulkner's works are highly sought after by collectors around the country. He exhibited regularly in New York, Ohio and Florida. |

An important American Impressionist who worked with Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Corot and Millet. His influence on Boston painters encouraged many to travel to France to study French Impressionism. |

1. John Califano, CA & IL, 1862-1946, Boy feeding sheep, oil on canvas, 23" x 20", signed. 2,000-3,000 Califano was born in Rome, where he studied under Domenico Morelli. He later lived in Chicago and eventually California. He won a gold medal at an exhibit in Naples in 1880, exhibited at the National Academy of Design from 1897-99, and at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1907. |

John William Bentley, Woodstock NY, 1880-1951, Fall landscape, oil on board, 8" x 10", signed. 1,200-1,500 Bentley was an early member of the Woodstock Art Colony, and exhibited at the Buffalo Society of Artists. He was also a WPA artist, and his work is in several buildings in New York City and the Dutch Reformed Church of Woodstock. |

Andrew Thomas Schwartz, 1867-1942, OH & NY, Landscape with distant hills, oil on board, 16" x 20", signed. 1,200-1,500 Born in Covington, Schwartz studied under Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy and under H.S. Mowbray at the Art Students League in New York. He was one of the best mural painters of his time, and exhibited his paintings extensively at the National Academy of Design, and the Art Institute of Chicago. |

Mary Fairchild Low, A.N.A., NY, 1858-1946, Rocky ocean cove, 1919, oil on board, 10.5" x 8.5", signed initials, dated. 800-1,200 Mary Fairchild Low studied at the St Louis School of Fine Art and the Academie Julien in Paris, and was a member of the National Academy of Design. While living in France she was friends with Whistler and Monet. |

Grant. A Chicago painter and muralist, Lane exhibited extensively, including entries at the A.I.C. Lane specialized in still lifes such as this one, which shows considerable Art Deco influence. |

Leonard Baskin, NJ, 1922-2000, Abstract head, litho on Rives paper, 23" x 31", pencil signed and numbered 5/100, Kulicke Frames label. 500-700 A highly respected Modernist, Baskin studied at the Educational Alliance in New York City, the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris, and the Academia di Belle Arti in Florence. Baskin's sculpture, watercolors, and prints are in the permanent collections of many of the world's major art galleries and museums. |
