Califano was born in Rome, where he studied under Domenico Morelli. He later lived in Chicago and eventually California. He won a gold medal at an exhibit in Naples in 1880, exhibited at the National Academy of Design from 1897-99, and at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1907.

National Academy member George Bogert was a tonalist painter, also associated with the Barbizon school. His best works employed a densely applied impasto to achieve hazy soft-light effects. He studied at the National Academy, in Paris, and later in New York under Thomas Eakins. He worked throughout Europe, and later settled in the artist's colony in Old Lyme, CT.

Well listed landscape painter. One of his paintings hangs in the White House.

An important American Impressionist who worked with Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Corot and Millet. His influence on Boston painters encouraged many to travel to France to study French Impressionism.

Myers specialized in painting children. His beach scenes are rare and sought after.

Bentley was an early member of the Woodstock Art Colony, and exhibited at the Buffalo Society of Artists. He was also a WPA artist, and his work is in several buildings in New York City and the Dutch Reformed Church of Woodstock.

Daniel Grose lived in Canada and Washington DC. He also worked in Maine, the Hudson River Valley, the Rocky Mountains, California including Yosemite, and Connecticut. He is well-listed as a painter of landscapes, rivers and ocean scenes. His father was English landscape painter, Francis Grose.

National Academy member Irving Wiles studied at the Art Students League in New York, where he formed a life-long friendship with William Merritt Chase. He later studied at the Academie Julien. He won many major awards on the East Coast and in the Paris Salon. His portrait subjects include Theodore Roosevelt and William Jennings Bryant.

Mary Fairchild Low studied at the St Louis School of Fine Art and the Academie Julien in Paris, and was a member of the National Academy of Design. While living in France she was friends with Whistler and Monet.

Born in Covington, Schwartz studied under Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy and under H.S. Mowbray at the Art Students League in New York. He was one of the best mural painters of his time, and exhibited his paintings extensively at the National Academy of Design, and the Art Institute of Chicago.

William Krullaars studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Rotterdam and the Art Institute of Chicago. He was a member of the Chicago Artists Association. Krullaars was primarily an impressionist landscape painter and was associated with Chicago's Arts and Craft community.

Joseph Lane studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was a pupil of Frederick M. Grant.  A Chicago painter and muralist, Lane exhibited extensively, including entries at the A.I.C.  Lane specialized in still lifes such as this one, which shows considerable Art Deco influence.

Ray Grathwol was a Cleveland-area modernist painter active primarily in the 1940's. He exhibited widely, including entries at the Carnegie Inst., the Butler Art Inst., and the Akron Art Inst. He is represented in numerous Ohio museum collections.

Painter of coastal scenes, landscapes, portraits, and miniatures. Studied at the Art Students League of New York. Exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Society of Artists, North Shore Art Association.
