1. John Califano, CA & IL, 1862-1946, Boy feeding sheep, oil on canvas, 23" x 20", signed. 2,000-3,000
Califano was born in Rome, where he studied under Domenico Morelli. He later lived in Chicago and eventually California. He won a gold medal at an exhibit in Naples in 1880, exhibited at the National Academy of Design from 1897-99, and at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1907. |

2. George Henry Bogert, A.N.A., NY, 1864-1944, Venetian Sunset, oil on canvas, 28" x 36", signed, title on reverse. 2,500-3,500
National Academy member George Bogert was a tonalist painter, also associated with the Barbizon school. His best works employed a densely applied impasto to achieve hazy soft-light effects. He studied at the National Academy, in Paris, and later in New York under Thomas Eakins. He worked throughout Europe, and later settled in the artist's colony in Old Lyme, CT. |

Born in Covington, Schwartz studied under Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy and under H.S. Mowbray at the Art Students League in New York.
