Zatzka was born in Vienna and studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. He is a well-listed painter of beautiful women, mythical scenes, still life, and religious scenes. He painted many church frescoes.

A well-listed artist associated with several avant garde movements of the early twentieth century, including Futurism and German Expressionism. He exhibited at the Societe Anonyme, and was featured in the avant garde German periodical Der Sturm.
